The Emergency Resource Center
The Emergency Resource Center was founded in 2021 in the wake of the Maple Crest Fire, which killed three and left dozens more homeless. Rotary lept into action, securing donations for much needed clothes and household supplies from supporters across the region. Instead of thrift store gift cards, they could come to the Emergency Resource Center to pick out the items they needed, all for free.
Even with the overwhelming demand from the Maple Crest families, donations still outstripped need. And so the center's founders opened it up to other families with identified needs, whether they were facing an acute crisis like a housefire or a chronic crisis like housing insecurity. The Emergency Resource Center continues to serve families in need from Tukwila, SeaTac, and beyond, accepting donations of clothes and household items.
Rotarians were there from the very beginning, and they continue to be active, whether that is in sorting donations, building shelves for storage, or helping in a myriad of other ways. The Rotary Club of SeaTac-Tukwila is proud to support this vital resource for families in our community.
